Object Lessons: Romance, Violation, and Female Adolescent Desire By Beborah L. Tolman

I think what Deborah Tolman was trying to say in this article is how young girls are afraid to talk about their sexuality. It is a difficult subject to discuss. The girl Isabel that she interviewed, who is 16, has experienced a lot at her age, and is afraid to think about her sexuality sometimes, because she doesn't know what to think about love and sex, but she knows that she is just trying to figure things out about herself.

Isabel told Deborah many stories about what has happened to her over the years. These stories were hard to Isabel to talk about, but it made her think more about things, and why she is so afraid to discuss why she hasn't been in a relationship, and is afraid to talk about sex. Also, how Isabel thinks, and views herself as sexy. Isabel said," Oh, it's so wonderful. And sometimes, like once in awhile, on a really good day, when I'm in a very good mood, it happens in real life, where I just feel sexy, and I know everybody must be just looking at me like, 'Oh wow, she's so beautiful.' Or like 'Oh my gosh, she must have 30 boyfriends outside of school'(...)." Isabel gets confident sometimes about herself, but that can be tough for her most times.
I found this text to be very interesting. Hearing what Isabel went through, and how she is trying to be confident with herself, after the unwanted attention must have been tough for her. She is trying really hard to make her self feel confident, and not be afraid of herself wanting to express her sexuality.

I agree but feel that Tolman should have discussed more about how Isabel's past experiences and how they shaped her sexuality. She danced around the subject but I feel this is an essential part of Isabel that needs to be clearly understood and analyzed in order to draw any conclusions.
